Hi, I’m Elliott. The owner and founder of Golden Wattle Studio.

It started with an idea. And a circular saw.

For a while, my wife had wanted a storage chest for our front porch. So I jumped onto the usual big box store websites, scoffed at the prices and decided I could build it.

Well that chest cost more to build than it would have been to buy.

But with my two sons helping me in the garage as I gradually put together this large, over-engineered chest with no plans and little idea of what I was actually doing I was hooked.

From pallet wood side tables to wireless charging pads, to chopping boards, book stands, keepsake boxes, whiskey cabinets and end tables my skills and tool collection grew quickly. 

Now I’m a furniture maker.

I had enjoyed DIY since I was little. Dad was always doing something around the house on weekends. Laying bricks in the driveway, fixing the retaining wall around the pool, replacing the garden bed, fixing the back roller shutter.

Once my wife and I started our life together and moved into our first home, I took on that DIY role with the occasional help from dad. But that was all the usual around-the-house chores. A blocked sink here, leaky toilet there, shelf install in the hallway.

But woodworking is different. It provides me an artistic outlet and a break from the crazy world around us.

There is nothing more satisfying than that piece of joinery slotting together perfectly, or the coat of finish bringing out the grain.

I am always looking to push myself and truly reach what I’m capable of.
